Governor Conditionally Vetoes DWI Interlock Bill

Many people having been talking about the pending legislation that would have allowed many first time DWI offenders to install the Interlock device in their car in lieu of a lengthy period of license suspension. I personally believe that the bill was severely flawed and would have been unfair to drivers and burdensome to the court system.

In a dramatic turn of events, Governor Christie conditionally vetoed the bill on March 23, 2015. His recommendation to the NJ Legislature makes the penalties for drunk driving even more severe than they are now.

For the time being, the penalties for DWI in NJ have not changed, but it will be interesting to see how the Legislature feels about the Governor’s recommendations.
